Shiny Hunting

Shiny Pokemon are alternate-colored variants that are extremely rare. They sparkle with particles and play a special sound on encounter. On Pokecade, there are several methods to increase your shiny odds, and the server runs shiny booster events that further amplify rates for limited times.

Shiny Hunting Methods

Shinies are rare by default, but Cobblemon provides multiple stacking methods to improve your odds significantly. Using several methods together makes shiny hunting much more practical.

1. Poke Snacks (Best for Wild Hunting)

Craft Poke Snacks at a Campfire Pot using type-specific ingredients. Place them in the world to attract Pokemon of that type AND boost the shiny rate. Stacking multiple snacks in one area compounds the effect — placing several snacks in a cluster dramatically increases your chances compared to a single snack.

2. Catch Combos (Stacks with Snacks)

Catch the same species repeatedly without catching a different species or fleeing. The combo counter builds and provides increasing bonuses at milestones (25, 50, 100+ catches). Higher combos grant better shiny odds, improved IV rolls on caught Pokemon, increased spawns of the target species, and a higher chance of encountering hidden ability Pokemon.

Breaking the combo (catching a different species or fleeing) resets all progress to zero. Stay focused on one species.

3. Masuda Method (Best for Targeting Specific Pokemon)

Breed two Pokemon from different in-game language settings. This significantly boosts the shiny rate for hatched eggs compared to the base breeding rate. Shiny parents do NOT increase odds. There is no way to tell if an egg is shiny until it hatches. This is the best method when you want a shiny of a specific species with good IVs and the right nature.

4. Shiny Charm (Passive Permanent Boost)

Complete the Pokedex by catching all available Pokemon to earn a Shiny Charm. This provides a passive boost on all encounters and stacks with all other methods. It's a long-term goal, but once you have it, every encounter and every egg benefits.

Stacking Methods

The key to effective shiny hunting is stacking multiple methods together. Each method multiplies independently, so combining Poke Snacks + Catch Combos + Shiny Charm yields dramatically better odds than any single method alone. The Masuda Method is best combined with the Shiny Charm for breeding-focused hunters.

Server Shiny Events

Pokecade periodically runs server-wide shiny boost events using the Shiny Boosters mod. When a shiny event is active, all players benefit from boosted rates on top of their individual methods. These events stack with everything else, making them the best time to grind for shinies. Keep an eye on server announcements and Discord for upcoming shiny events.

Shiny Identification

Shiny Pokemon are identified by sparkle particles and a sound effect on encounter. In PC storage, GTS listings, and auction interfaces, they are tagged with a "Shiny" label. Shiny Pokemon are worth significantly more on GTS and in trades — they command a premium price from collectors and competitive players alike.
